July 17, 2020
March feels like a long time ago, given everything we’ve been through. And, that was just the beginning of a series of tough decisions to slow the spread of COVID-19 that have helped our state and community cope. The reality is the virus continues to spread.
After working with health experts, our state department of education, other school districts, our internal administrative team and our teacher led blended learning committee – we have service plans in place to open our schools in a careful way.
On August 24th West Memphis School District will open for both on-site learning at our campuses in a traditional format and remote learning at home for those who may have that desire as well. Safety precautions will be in place to adhere to social distancing and PPE requirements for our students, staff and families. You can visit our wmsd.net site to review our updates and details of our measured approach within the www.wmsd.net/covid19 page.
As part of this plan we need to gather one more piece of information from you in order to help us meet the needs of your student appropriately. Please take a moment to complete “Survey #3 - Declaration for AT HOME or AT SCHOOL Commitment” to choose your option for this fall. The declaration deadline is July 31.
ALL parents and students will be required to sign the device MOU. We have attached a student device check-out flyer, as well, for your information. Drive through pick up will be coordinated at each campus through the principal’s office. We are scheduling these pick up days for the week of August 10th. Please see your principal for details. ALL STUDENTS WILL RECEIVE DEVICES (iPads for K-2) (Chromebooks for 3-12). Regardless if you choose on-site or virtual delivery all students will need a device this fall.
I know parents, students and teachers have questions about what school may look like. I urge you to visit our website as we will provide updates weekly as information is released. I would also ask for your patience and continued support as we navigate uncharted waters during a global health pandemic. We will work together to continue to put students first.
