Parent/Student MOU (Memorandum of Understanding) for Chromebook, iPad, and Mobile Internet devices can be read here. Agreement by signature and date will be required to receive device(s).
Please read the MOU online to ensure the drive-through distribution process is as efficient as possible. Those who want to read a paper copy of MOU before signing will be given a paper copy and signature page and directed to exit their position in line and come back through once MOU is read and signed to receive the device.
All WMSD K-2 students will be issued an iPad (tablet). All students in grades 3-12 will receive a Chromebook (laptop). Special needs children will receive the device that best suits their needs.
All means All. There will be no shared devices.
AT SCHOOL students will use their exclusively assigned device for instruction both at school and at home for homework and/or for potential closure. aka "Blended Learner."
AT HOME students will use their exclusively assigned device for instruction at home for their regular school day, and continue the same if there is a future school closure. aka "Virtual Learner."
Households or students in need of Internet access will be issued a mobile Internet Hotspot to connect their issued iPads or Chromebooks to WiFi internet. Each hotspot can accommodate the connection of 5 devices. Issue of this device is optional. Data usage and access is restricted to instructional websites and services. If you already have WiFi in the home, you do not need to checkout this device. However, an Internet Hotspot and Internet data will be provided by WMSD to all students in need. Checkout of this device will take place during the iPad/Chromebook distribution and will be covered by the same MOU. Request of Internet Hotspot will also be on Survey #3.
Infractions of the provisions set forth in the WMSD Device MOU may result in suspension or termination of access privileges and/or appropriate disciplinary action.
Activities in violation of state and federal statutes will be subject to prosecution by those authorities. Disciplinary action may be taken by The West Memphis School District as appropriate.
Devices will be issued in NEW, GOOD, or FAIR condition.
Condition of the device(s) issued to each student will be entered into an inventory system at distribution.
All devices will be issued in working condition, but we realize there will be normal wear and tear including faulty keyboard keys, power adapters, batteries, headset plugs, and even some screen cracks. Faulty components are typically in good physical condition, but have just quit functioning properly at no fault of the user. Students/Parents are expected to report any kind of damage or faulty component to their teacher as soon as possible. Devices will then be reviewed by WMSD tech staff to determine if the damage is normal wear and tear, covered by warranty, can be repaired vs replacement, and to what level of restitution (if any) is required before issuing another device. If determined no restitution is required the student will be issued a replacement device as soon as possible.
Loss, theft, or malicious damage to a device may result in restitution to be made before another device is issued. Restitution amount is determined by the condition of device at issue and the following scale.
NEW Chromebook/iPad = $300
GOOD Chromebook/iPad = $200
FAIR Chromebook/iPad = $100
ALL Internet HotSpots = $100
Chromebook Power adapters = $25
iPad/HotSpot Power Adapters = $15
Malicious damage will be determined by WMSD staff. For example, malicious damage may be physical damage caused by negligence or complete disregard for care of the device. (left in driveway and ran over by car, device thrown at person or object, etc.)
Restitution for theft may be waived with valid police report provided by the student/parent.
