AMI Learning Plans Summaries

First of all, we would like to thank all of you for being patient with us as we try to develop a learning plan for the students in the West Memphis School District. It seems as if we are putting together a plane and learning to fly it at the same time. We now feel that we have a good plan in place going forward that will allow your children to keep learning and not overburden you with too much information at the same time.

The summary of the Learning Plan is as follows:

***K-2 Literacy and Math

The Arkansas AMI Learning Guides have been developed to support home-based instruction in association with the PBS educational television programs to promote activities that students and families may use to practice existing skills, learn new topics, and interact with one another in a meaningful way. You can access the shows through the television channels if you get them or by going to this link https://www.myarkansaspbs.org/arkansasami. There are also packets that go along with the shows that can be accessed on our website at www.wmsd.net/ami. We will be using Week 2 for April 6-10 and continuing from that point.

***3rd-6th grade Literacy (with Social Studies and Science built in) Each Sunday night we will upload a literacy agenda for each grade level to the West Memphis School District website (www.wmsd.net/ami). These same agendas are also copied into packet form and are available at each campus for pickup each Monday morning and will be given out during the lunch/breakfast deliveries on Mondays. The agenda will include articles to read, videos to watch, and activities that are based on a science or social studies topic. Each Friday students will have a task to complete based on the work they’ve done Monday to Thursday. The Friday tasks can be emailed to your student’s teacher or sent in whatever other format your student and teacher use to communicate (Google Classroom, Remind, etc.). There is also a parent signature page at the bottom of Friday’s agenda that the parent should sign and also send to the teacher. The completed packets can also be turned in to the lunch/breakfast delivery driver on Fridays only.

***3rd-6th grade Math Just as with literacy, each Sunday night we will upload a math agenda for each grade level to the West Memphis School District website (www.wmsd.net/ami). These same agendas are also copied into packet form and are available at each campus for pickup each Monday morning and will be given out during the lunch/breakfast deliveries on Mondays. Everyday you will have to complete the following in your packet:

    • Warm-Up- This section reviews skills you have learned in the past.
    • Challenge Problem- This section is a math puzzle to strengthen your brain. Do your best to figure it out. On Friday your teacher will reveal the answer to see if you got it right.
    • Daily Work- This section goes over important learning skills we have worked on this year. Each day there is a YouTube video you can watch to help you with that day’s work. Remember your teachers are glad to help if you get stuck.

There is also a parent signature page at the bottom of Friday’s agenda that the parent should sign and also send to the teacher. You will then return your packet or send a picture of the completed work to your teacher each week or these can be picked up by the lunch/breakfast driver on Fridays only.

***7th-9th grades all subjects Each Sunday night we will upload the agendas for each grade level to the West Memphis School District website (www.wmsd.net/ami). These same agendas are also copied into packet form and are available at each campus for pickup each Monday morning and will be given out during the lunch/breakfast deliveries on Mondays. The completed packets can also be turned in to the lunch/breakfast delivery driver on Fridays only or they can be held and turned back into the school during the week of May 11-15.

***10th-11th grades all subjects Currently there are agendas uploaded for work through April 17th at www.wmsd.net/ami. These same agendas are also copied into packet form and are available at the campus for pickup each Monday morning and will be given out during the lunch/breakfast deliveries on Mondays. The completed packets can also be turned in to the lunch/breakfast delivery driver on Fridays only or they can be held and turned back into the school during the week of May 11-15. If school closure is extended beyond April 17th, an additional set of agendas will be posted no later than April 19th on the website.

March 31, 2020 A Letter to the Blue Devil Nation - Due to current circumstances, West Memphis High School will regretfully have to cancel Prom 2020 and our musical production of "The Little Mermaid" scheduled for this year. We have also decided to cancel all end of the year award programs at each campus along with all kindergarten and sixth grade graduations. In an effort to cooperate with guidelines for large group gatherings and to keep everyone safe and well, these cancellations must occur. There are still many questions about our high school graduation scheduled for May 15th. It is our hope at this time we can make the traditional ceremony a reality, though final decisions will be made as the date approaches. We are not going to officially cancel the traditional ceremony until we absolutely know that it is not going to be an option. Now, it is important to understand that if we are unable to host our traditional graduation, we do plan to host some type of alternate celebration for the class of 2020 if and when possible. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we navigate these challenging circumstances.
