The Arkansas Department of Education presented a new proposal for calculating school grades for school within our state. According to ADE Secretary Jacob Oliver, the state recommends a revised formula that focuses on three key areas of student progress: academics, growth, and readiness. The new accountability formula factors in results of the Arkansas Teaching, Learning, and Assessment System (ATLAS), a new statewide assessment system that was administered for the first time to student’s last spring.
The West Memphis School District is pleased to announce four schools improved their performance, thereby increasing their simulated letter grades during the 2023-2024 school year. Grades are based on a scoring system with points ranging from 900 to 0. Under the updated point scoring system, Richland Elementary earned a “B,” Academies of West Memphis achieved a “C,” and both Jackson-Wonder Elementary and Bragg Elementary made gains to reach a “D.”
We congratulate the administrators, teachers, and staff at each school who guide our students to success and help to improve the school’s grade.
